Project Description:

Adams Hospital, which replaces the old county facility, represents a shift toward out-patient friendly, community-oriented design.  The facility is organized around a large central mall, with the entrance to each department located “on the mall”.  Patients and family can move about the facility without concern for wayfinding, as the experience is designed to emulate that of a retail shopping center.

Oriented over the “mall”, the inpatient units have separate public, patient and staff elevators, so that “front-stage” is never mixed with “back-stage”.  This separation puts the public at ease and also contributes greatly to patient dignity.

Overall, this is a warm, inviting facility, one that the community has embraced not only for its healthcare needs but also as a community center for fitness and fine dining.
