Municipal Maintenance Building
City of Berne, Indiana
Berne, IN
New Construction
Project Description:
The project extended beyond simply replacing an aging maintenance facility by creating a modern operations campus designed to improve efficiency, support future growth, and serve the City of Berne for decades to come.
After recognizing that its existing building could no longer accommodate expanding operations, equipment, and storage needs, the City partnered with the design team to evaluate multiple sites and develop solutions tailored to its long-term operational goals. Through a collaborative planning process, the team studied daily workflows, vehicle circulation, storage requirements, and future expansion opportunities to create the most effective site layout.
The architectural design emphasized functionality and durability, incorporating maintenance bays, vehicle storage, offices, staff support areas, and secure storage into an efficient floor plan. Careful consideration was given to the relationship between the building, laydown yards, material storage, and equipment circulation to maximize operational efficiency and safety.
By integrating strategic site planning with thoughtful building design, the project delivers a highly functional municipal maintenance facility that improves productivity, reduces long-term operating costs, and provides the flexibility needed to meet the City’s evolving needs.
