Renovation

Project Description:

This design consisted of simultaneous renovations of “twin” FWCS School Buildings that included re-programming of spaces, upgraded building systems, finishes, exterior envelope improvements and ADA accessibility.

The design challenges of this project included parallel design of sister schools that although similar at face value have individual design challenges to overcome. Some of the challenges to overcome included varying floor plans, structural systems, and additions.

The evaluation of existing spaces for re-programming provided the framework for creative and effective solutions to the hardships of the users. Finishes have been revitalized or replaced throughout with an emphasis on embracing the school’s brand and existing fenestration was evaluated and replaced as appropriate. The most impactful improvements to accessibility included new vertical circulation as well as the addition and reconfiguration of restrooms.

Upgrades to the mechanical systems included providing the addition of cooling through the addition of rooftop units and vertical unit ventilators including the associated piping and chiller. The upgrade to the plumbing systems included both new toilet rooms and the re-piping of existing toilet rooms bringing the systems up to code. The upgrade to electrical and technology systems included a total replacement of all components.
